In 1906 Gyokushū published a woodblock-printed picture book for art students entitled Gyokushū Shūgachō (i.e., Picture Lessons by Gyokushū). It included the twenty flower and (or) bird pictures shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Both the shapes and colors of the flowers and birds were drawn in a true-to-life way which was a painting style used by many Japanese artists in the early 1900s.
